investing in people?
this is only a reminder for my future self to check this hard decision.
today, i intentionally decided to trust and invest in some people. they’re *good* enough to be invested in, with my time, resources, knowledge, connections, etc. but i really don’t know how much they can grow. this short essay is just some heart words (and also my reasons) about the decision i made to be checked 2,3 years from now.
today, i think that investing in *good* people will result. but that good means a LOT to me and i want to talk about its properties.
being good, by itself, might bring someone to mind. but my definition of *good* can be captured by three main properties (with my own interpretation of them):
high integrity: the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.
high agency: the ability to significantly influence or change things (being a "game-changer" is a good way to put it).
high discipline: someone who adheres to the rules they set for themselves.
if i see all three of these properties in someone, i will *undoubtedly* invest in them. however, these truly exceptional people are surprisingly rare. the people i've chosen to invest in aren't also radically good, they're simply good.
but after all these rational words, i chose to invest in them, from my heart! they're good themselves to be invested in, but to be honest, i think that investing in these people is for itself a good work i can do. i really love helping people to grow and be their best. so if those people are my teammates, i will be much much happier to help them to be the best and make our startup the best!
In summary, i think that building a great product (and also the whole startup) goes from the path of building great people and i'll try this path. i see my role as a person who helps others to grow, a chief people-growth officer (or "CpgO"). :)
i will share more of this decision, the people i’m working with, and the product we’ve just started to work on. i really don’t know what’s coming. but i’m super excited for the future with these people!
